(Music is playing as a the screen pans across an outdoor view of Woodman Park Community Centre. (Music continues through with a view of front lobby.) (Music continues with a view of gymnasium.) (Music continues with a view of outdoor pool.) (Kim Rolson speaking about the facility) My name’s Kim. I’m the Youth Coordinator for Brantford Parks & Recreation for the City of Brantford. My job is that oversee programming for youth ages 11 to 17. Specifically here at Woodman Park Community Centre as we are designated youth friendly. We have lots of programming for the age group 11 to 17. We have youth leadership courses where you can learn and train to be a leader in recreation. We have drop-in basketball. The cool thing we have is an indoor skate park. It’s Fresh Park. It’s the only one in Ontario so far. We set that up on Friday nights and Saturdays during the day. (male employee speaking about the facility) What we offer is our WLounge (Screen fades to view of WLounge as music plays quietly in the background) It has a bunch of different electronic equipment. So there’s iPad’s, Mac stations, an xBox, PS3, and smart board. So it’s something that they can use for fun with their friends or they can do homework and other assignments on it as well. Kim and I other staff are there to support them in whatever they’re trying to do there. Our gym is usually open as well so they can head on in there and play any sport that they want really. Or just hang out in there as well. We also offer programs for floor hockey and basketball. We’ll be introducing that in the fall. We have cooking and backing programs also. Kim and I are always looking at different interests in youth in the community and trying to base our programs off of that. (Victoria speaks about facility) Hey guys! We’re Victoria and Adam. We’re part of the youth group here at Woodman. We hang out at the centre every night and it’s such an awesome way to spend our day. (Adam speaks) Yea. We love to play pool, video games, play some sports in the gym. It’s just an all around great time. We listen to music. So you guys should definitely come on out and have a great time with us! (Female teen speaks about facility) I came from Ajax this summer to Brantford. I’m like “oh I don’t wanna move to Brantford. I don’t like Brantford. There’s nothing to do. It’s boring.” But then someone told me they came (here). Kim, which is the manager, told us about Woodman Centre. They gave us free memberships so we can come here for a year. Then I came here and then I made friends and Kim was telling me about the Brantford Youth Council so I did that. (Male employee speaking about the facility) I feel like, the work I do, I get a lot out of it and I know I’m making a difference in the community. (Kim Rolson speaking about the facility) The great part of this program is we charge $5 a year and that gets you a discount on all our trips, when we go to the Raptors Games, when we go to Canada’s Wonderland in the summer. It gets you free swimming in the summer as well as any of those activities from 3 to 9(pm). It’s really cool place. So we hope you like what you saw! If you need more information you can give us a call our number is 519-752-0890. You can also visit the City of Brantford website, brantford dot ca. Come out and see us, check us out. Hopefully we’ll see you soon. (City of Brantford Parks & Recreation, Brantford Youth Council, WLounge, and the J & J Productions logos are displayed.)
