My name is Val. I’ve been married to
Colin for 54 years for the last eight years Colin has suffered from dementia.
Initially I cared for him at home. Unfortunately now Colin is in a local
nursing home with severe complex needs. Nurses and carers look after him with
kindness and dedication but are always under pressure. I had to fight to
keep him there as spaces are limited and the authorities wanted to move him further
away. We were refused continuing health care which would have funded his needs.
However I have to find in excess of a thousand pounds per month which is
difficult. I was told to ask family members for help.
Social funding cuts have left 1.5 million older people without the care
they need and a hundred thousand social care jobs are unfilled. Labour will fix
this chaos. They will provide free personal care and ensure no families
have to face spiraling care costs as my family have had to do. I’m Val and I will
be voting Labour on December the 12th
