How to Use Graduate Level Statistics in Business Analytics – Ken Rona

Erik: So how has your graduate level, statistical
education opened doors to understanding why people do the things they do? Ken: I spent a lot of time with statistics
and what I found was that it was more of a foundational thing. It’s kind of like learning
a different language. So, to the extent that I can speak that language pretty fluently,
it means that when I’m in a situations where someone needs to translate, I can often do
the translation. So, in my world I’m able to speak the language of statistics, which
means that if you put me in a situation where there is data, regardless of what the data
is. Whether it’s advertising impressions, or it’s why do sales people behave the way
they do, or whether it’s around the use of computers or organization, it doesn’t
really matter so much to me. Whatever the data is, whatever the phenomenon is that people
are looking to describe or have data about, I can take that language, that statistical
language, and apply it.
