Former Word of Faith Fellowship members speak out

REMOVE THE DEMONS OUT OF MEMBERS, ANYWHERE FROM CHILDREN TO SENIOR CITIZENS. 43 MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH HAVE GIVEN INTERVIEWS AS PART OF A MAJOR INVESTIGATION BY THE “ASSOCIATED PRESS.” AND 7 NEWS REPORTER BRIANNA SMITH SPOKES WITH MORE VICTIMS. THIS IS THE FIRST — SPOKE WITH MORE VICTIMS. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THEY’RE SAYING THEIR STORY ONLY ON 7. BRIANNA. TOM FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF I TALKED TO BEN AND MICAH COOPER ABOUT THEIR CHILDHOODS GROWING UP IN THE WORD OF FAITH FELLOWSHIP CHURCH. THEY WERE TWO OF THE 43 MEMBERS THAT TALKED TO THE “ASSOCIATED PRESS” OUTLINING YEARS OF ABUSE IN WHAT THEY NOW CALL A CULT. HAND-IN-HAND, MICAH AND BEN COOPER EMBRACED DAY THAT SECRET OTHER CHILD HOOD IS EXPOSED. HOOD IS EXPOSED. Reporter: THEY WERE BROUGHT TO THE CHURCH AS CHILDREN FROM THEIR FAMILIES TAUGHT TO THE START THEY WERE UNCLEAN AND WICKED. I GREW UP GENUINELY BELIEVING I WAS AN EVIL PERSON AND I WAS A REPEELOUS CHILD BECAUSE I LIKED SPORTS. Reporter: WORD OF FAITH FELLOWSHIP WAS FOUNDED BY JANE WHALY AND HER HUSBAND IN THE 1970s. THE CHURCH HAS HUNDREDS OF MEMBERS THAT HAVE FLOCKED FROM ACROSS COUNTRY TO WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA, INSTILLING THE WORD OF GOD, WHICH FORMER MEMBERS SAY COULD ALSO BE INTERPRETED AS JANE’S WORD. Reporter: DO YOU CALL IT A CULT NOW? ABSOLUTELY, YEAH. ABSOLUTELY. IT’S GOT EVERY CHARACTERISTIC OF A CULT AND YOU KNOW, THE THING ABOUT BEING BRAINWASHED IS YOU DON’T KNOW YOU’RE BRAINWASHED WHEN YOU’RE IN THERE. I HAD NO IDEA HOW BRAINWASHED I WAS EVEN AFTER I LEFT. AS A TEEN, BEN COOPER SAYS HE WAS SUBJECT TO ABUSE, MENTAL AND PHYSICAL, BUT HE SAYS HE WASN’T ALONE. WHEN SHE SLAPS YOU, OR YOU SEE HER SLAP SOMEONE ELSE, YOU’RE JUST LIKE, I’M NOT GOING TO THINK ABOUT IT, AND YOU JUST PUSH IT DOWN. Reporter: COOPER DESCRIBED A PLACE CALLED THE LOWER BUILDING, WHERE THOSE IN TROUBLE WERE OFTEN PLACED WITH NO OUTSIDE COMMUNICATION TO BE TAUGHT A LESSON. IT’S THERE WHERE HE SAYS HE SAW BLOODY BEATINGS BY A MINISTER. AFTER BERAIDING HIM, HE WALKED UP TO HIM, AND SMART START — STARTED SMACKING HIM IN THE CHEST. THE WHOLE TIME HE WAS SCREAMING AT HIM, AND STARTED SLAMMING HIM ON THE GROUND, FACE FIRST. AND THEY’RE GOING TO SAY HE HAD TO DO THIS BECAUSE JESUS TOLD HIM? CORRECT. YEAH, HE WAS — THIS WAS SHOWING THIS YOUNG MAN THE LOVE OF GOD. Reporter: IT WAS ONE OF THOSE BEATINGS THAT SPURRED THIS CONVERSATION WITH THE CHURCH’S FOUND THEY’RE BEN COOPER DECIDED TO SECRETLY RECORD. WE WENT TO HER TO CONFRONT HER ABOUT WHY THIS MINISTER DID THIS AND WHY SHE HADN’T DONE ANYTHING ABOUT THAT MINISTER DOING IT, SO THAT’S WHAT THIS MEETING IS ABOUT. “IT’S NOT RIGHT TO USE FORCE LIKE THAT “. “STOP IT!. WE’RE NOT USED TO YOU. THAT’S THE DEVIL SPEAKING OUT OF YOU.” SO THAT WAS THE VOICE OF JANE WHALY, WHO YOU JUST HEARD THERE, AND YOU KNOW YOU HEARD THE VOICE SAY, THEY’RE RESPONDING TO HER AS JANE. SHE IN INSTRUCTED THE ENTIRE CONGREGATION TO CALL HER GRANDMOTHER. IT SEEMS FROM THE ABSOLUTELY RULES, SHE HAD POWER, AND MARRIAGE AND CHILDBIRTH. WHO YOU MARRY, WHEN YOU CAN HAVE A CHILD, AND YOU KNOW, BEN EVEN EXPLAINED THAT HE WASN’T ALLOWED TO STAY WITH HIS BIOLOGICAL PARENTS. THEY PICKED NEW PARENTS AND HE LIVED FROM THE TIME HE WAS 16 UNTIL HE WENT TO COLLEGE, AND YOU KNOW A LOT OF THESE PEOPLE ARE AFRAID TO LEAVE BECAUSE THEY DON’T WANT TO LEAVE THEIR OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS BEHIND. THIS ISN’T THE FIRST TIME WE’VE TALKED ABOUT ABUSE WITHIN THE WORD OF FAITH LEADERSHIP. WE TALKED TO MATTHEW FINER AFTER HE CAME OUT AND FIVE PEOPLE WERE CHARGED IN AN ASSAULT AGAINST HIM. LET’S TAKE A LISTEN TO THAT INTERVIEW. “MY VISION WAS GOING BROWN AND BLACK. I HONESTLY THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE.” NOW YOU REMEMBER THERE WERE SEVERAL INCIDENTS LISTED ON YOUR SCREEN, 2013, HE SAYS HE WAS ATTACKED FOR BEING GAY IN 2011. A MAN SAYS HE WAS HELD AGAINST HIS WILL FOR BEING GAY AND IN 2003, CHILDREN TAKEN TO A MINISTER’S HOME FOR AN ABUSIVE ENVIRONMENT. YOU WONDER HOW IS IT THIS CHURCH HAS BEEN ABLE TO EXIST FOR SO LONG. I KNOW THEY HAVE A FENNER COURT CASE. WHICH IS STILL SPENDING. WHAT DO PEOPLE SAY ABOUT THE FACT THERE’S BEEN SO MANY EXAMPLES OF VIOLENCE AND YET THE CHURCH IS STILL THERE? I THINK THERE’S SO MANY QUESTIONS THAT CAN’T BE ANSWERED RIGHT NOW AND I KNOW THE A.P. OBVIOUSLY DID AN EXCELLENT JOB INVESTIGATING THIS FOR OVER A YEAR, AND NEXT WEEK WE’RE GOING TO GET A PART TWO OF THAT AND A LOT OF THOSE QUESTIONS WILL BE ANSWERED. FOR PERSPECTIVE, HOW BIG A CHURCH? RIGHT NOW THEY HAVE ABOUT 700 MEMBERS. SO IT’S A LOT OF PEOPLE, NOT JUST HERE IN SPINDALE, CAROLINA AND IN BRAZIL AND GHANA, THEY HAVE SEVERAL OUTSIDE THE U.S. THAT PEOPLE TRAVEL BACK AND FORTH TO.

  • These crazy bastards bought a house next to a family member of mine over 25 years ago. Always had 6-10 weird ass guys living there all the time. I know a lot of people who have been around these people. They are FUCKING CRAZY .. and do not act like Christians .. the local politicians are too corrupt to prosecute. Shitty redneck county with a shitty redneck CULT! Jane Whaley is an evil bitch !  This is a whacked out cult !!!!!

  • reads like Scientology me thinks … gain control by manipulating the family members, put chains on your relationships

  • These people need to be in Jail… if your LGBT get out of churches that put you down and make you feel like crap, your life may depend on it. If your into region there are lots of churches that except LGBT for who they are, just go to your local gay pride parade and you will see lots of them.

  • This has been going on in my county for years and nothing is NEVER done to these people. but i think its strange that no where the Bible it say to do any of these things they have done.

  • 2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

  • word of faith……  is also the name of the cult that Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyers and James Robinson ( and hundreds of other TBN preachers) are part of.    I am not sure if they are connected to this church.. but it might be.

  • Why didn't they mention the 40 other legal immigrants being held their as slaves for the church? The people who don't speak english?

  • First issue, they have a woman preacher…… just another reason why Word of Faith is heretical and an apostate version of Christianity.

  • She told the truth about being brainwashed she said"you do not know you are being brainwashed while you are in there".Does that sound familiar?

  • I am AMAZED that "AP" Is Actually doing INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM !! — Thought that was dead! KUDOS.. President & Ivanka Trump, Scalise, Sessions, Flynns, Troy Gowdy, all want to clamp down on HUMAN TRAFFICKING & Vowed to do so.. #PizzaGate

  • Christianity teaches everyone that they are unclean and evil and only through blood sacrifice are you atoned. It teaches you to put the leader (Christ) above your family – your kids and to follow him. It teaches that christ a man was god on earth, and that your only salvation is to believe in him. Before christ was sacrificed they sacrificed animals for the forgiveness of sin. That is a cult. So if you are a christian, think twice about judging these folks. The only reason people are able to dismiss tradition christianity as a cult is becaue most christians ignore their cults rules.

  • "How is this church allowed to exists for so long?" said the news lady. I'll answer that.

Because WOFF is embedded in the justice system in Rutherford County NC. Many of the prosecutors, lawyers, judges, and cops are members or are in WOFF's pockets. That's why. Glad I left that county. I could only stand it for a year. Most crooked county I've ever lived in.

  • These are the same stories as the cult of Scientology. Which still exists even after hundreds of claims of abuse. This church must be an affiliate of Scientology.

  • Is homosexuality a sin? Yes. So is being overweight and being a glutton. Sin is sin. We all sin a little different. Living in sin such as homosexuality and gluttony should be called out. . . Equally. You can't pinpoint a sin.
James 2:10. If you keep the whole law, yet offend in one point; fyiu are guilty of all.

  • They were probably trying to cast the devil out of the homosexual, instead of preaching the true gospel to him. Sad, sad, sad! WOFakers are so lost and deceived, not to mention very unorthodox. I know, I spent many years in the charismatic movement. I just couldn't seem to learn how to demand God to give me what I wanted; it seemed so blasphemous.
If your in these charismatic churches, RUN like your backside is on fire.

  • Me quisieron violar estos cabrones, en verdad. Salí corriendo y llorando, fue una experiencia horrible. Me dijeron que era por mi bien.

  • I still very much believe in God and that Jesus is the son of God and in the 66 books of the Christian Bible, but I have completely given up on churches.

  • Pretty much every Protestant church has some form of this going on. I've been in many churches over my 35 years of fallowing after Jesus Christ and have seen this everywhere with the exception of one Church/Pastor go unfortunately move to a different country. They may all not be as outright abusive as this church but there's other forms of covert abuse & unhealthy and unwarranted yielding of imaginary power.

  • What about sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic Church with membership well over 1.200.000.000 members (a massive cult) not just 700 !?!

  • While it is true that the Word of Faith movement has some incorrect ideas, “I was taught that I was a bad person” is not one of them. The ancient texts of the Bible, and indeed the entire ancient world, sacred and profane lay the divine indictment at the feet of Man, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes” (Romans 3:10-18 KJV). While it is true that we are not as evil as we could be, the argument that “Man is basically good” flies in the face of all human history and logic. Is Man capable of good? Yes, if he has motivation. But left to himself and his creaturely nature, without God, the depths of depravity and destruction he is capable of have yet to be seen-

  • I grew up in the 80s.as a son of a Lutheran minister in n.c. I know what's like to have strict rules and extreme structure. I hold my dad as the last minister I will ever trust in a structured setting. He spent his 1 day off which was always Monday tending to the elders in the church gardens or taking me hiking on a nearby mountain! I wish religion was the same as back then. Now the ministers hop in their BMW and go golfing all week. They don't care! Don't give up on religion! Just be weary of organized religion. This sounds like something off Harry potter!

  • The Coopers are a terrible family just jealous of the power of the Lord within the church. They couldn't handle the word and now they work for the devil. Shame on the news for allowing them to spread lies of preachers beating children bloody. Ridiculous!

  • What is so disturbing is individuals put their trust in a person(Pastor) in place of seeking God themselves embracing the Word of God .
Having a relationship with God ,Our Savior Jesus Christ, and The Holy Spirit is our safety from being deceived .

  • That lady on that secret audio has a demon. I'd seriously bet on it. That scream! Woe! Sent a chill up my spine. I'm not one to go about looking for and expecting to find demons, but that sounded like this neighbor of mine who was as evil as they come.

  • Does this despicable "word of faith fellowship" cult leader have children of her own? I pray in God's name, that she does not. This hateful organization is NOT a church and is completely and willfully ignorant of the Bible and it's teachings. It will be difficult, but I'll pray for her and the congregation.
