Can Democrats learn from the GOP? | Former IOP Fellow Douglas Heye

Ask an Obama official what they thought about Darrell Issa. They hated him. And they hated him because he was dogging on the administration on everything. Elijah Cummings sat literally
two feet away from him who’s now going to be the Chair
and the Trump administration is going to hate Elijah Cummings because he is going to
be the new Darrell Issa. They are going to investigate nonstop and a lot of that is good and proper and obviously a lot hasn’t happened in the past couple years. The one thing I would counsel
my Democratic friends on is it’s very easy to get overenthused about your own investigations,
what you’re uncovering. Republicans in the late 90s
certainly got carried away with things which resulted
in an impeachment. But they need to be I think very careful in how they proceed to
not overextend themselves and get carried away with themselves. We did it as Republicans and it was a real boon in 1998 to Bill Clinton.
