£1 million spent on community open spaces in Newquay

I think the park speaks for itself it benefits
not only the people of Newquay but people from all over the country I mean what time
are we now quarter to four on a Friday so its full of school kids who’ve just broke
up for the weekend later on tonight when the lights come on there’ll be all the local youths
will be down there and the older guys will be down there and girls they’ll be using
the park as well so it caters for a wide range of local users but also what we find as well
in summer and even out of summer people are now visiting the park as a destination spot
because it’s such a good facility we’ve worked on a number of projects all through Newquay
in partnership between Newquay Town Council and Cornwall Council projects large and small
here is an example of a smaller project where Newquay Town Councillors have taken some Section
106 money provided by Cornwall Council and we’ve delivered some benches made from recycled
materials and installed by our employees and we’ve managed to achieve that in a really
short space of time its just a prime example of how it doesn’t all need to be about the
big huge projects lots of little projects can make a real difference the money that
we’ve invested from the 106 has been a fantastic opportunity to develop things in the Newquay
area particularly the Trenance Leisure Park where we’ve put in a completely new set of
equipment and what was really nice about it was the fact that we involved the children we went to
the local schools we gave a number of designs to ask which ones they preferred and without
any difference every school came back and they preferred the same one which is the one
we were able to deliver it’s been phenomenally well used and we’re really delighted that
its been such a success these are great examples of how different groups working together can
achieve great things for their communities its important that residents have access to
a wide variety of areas you know play areas for the young children skate parks for the
older children and just great places to go for a walk and enjoy our beautiful cornish
countryside
